What is ExecuNet and should you join?
The job search for an executive can be a long and arduous prospect — and this is true when it comes to finding employment in a competitive job market when there’s stiff competition for the best-paying jobs.
Fortunately, there are resources like professional executive resume writers, career networks, and job boards available to help you get a leg up.
This week, I'm sharing one such job board that you may decide is worth joining, or not, depending on where you find yourself currently.
ExecuNet is a niche job board developed specifically for the seasoned executive candidate. I would be surprised if you've never heard of ExecuNet as it’s apparently been around for more than 20 years and people tend to say positive things about the site — reviews of ExecuNet @ BBB.org show a few billing issues, nothing else at the time of this writing. EDITORIAL NOTE: We were unable to find any substantial Yelp.com reviews for ExecuNet.
Founded by Dave Opton, who recognized the need for a job board for high-level executives to focus their job searches, the website has helped many senior level execs make the right career connections.
What makes ExecuNet different from other similar job boards?
You may be wondering if ExecuNet offers any advantages over other similar executive job boards, like The Ladders, Ivy Exec, and Executives Only?
While I cannot speak specifically to the quality of the other job boards, as each comes with its own merits and downsides, I will share a detailed review for 2017 of ExecuNet so you can draw your conclusions.
ExecuNet Jobs promises executive positions are pre-screened and are at a high level with salaries starting at $150,000 or more. The industries are across the board, with everything from finance and accounting to information technology, legal, consulting, and general management jobs. The job site attracts those who are considered to be leaders in their prospective careers and are looking to make a difference.
Other benefits of ExecuNet include:
- Access to a panel of experts in executive leadership, career development, and more
- The opportunity for candidates to increase visibility with executive recruiters
- Immediate email alerts when newly posted executive jobs are posted on the site
- Custom profile and space to upload your resume and credentials, and privately apply for jobs
- VIP invitations to leadership events, courses, retreats, and other career-building resources
How much does an ExecuNet membership cost?
ExecuNet offers a Platinum Membership, which makes it highly affordable for a short-term or long-term career search. Keep in mind that it can take up to 6 months for an executive candidate to land a great job, according to industry averages.
There are several membership options on ExecuNet that nearly anyone can find will work for his or her needs, starting at just $39 for 30 days and renewing on a monthly basis (unless you cancel). The other payment levels are:
- 90-day membership $99
- 180-day membership $219
- 360-day membership for $399
Upon successful registration, members gain immediate access to all of the above resources, fresh job leads, and a complimentary pass to their Master Class, which they describe as the “world's leading community of the brightest business thinkers and top leadership experts,” along with instructors who teach best-in-class leadership and career-development skills.
Be sure to take advantage of their convenient monthly live webinars, teleconferences, and networking meetings to fast-track your career.
The membership fees are comparable to other similar job boards that feature executive jobs. However, with ExecuNet, members have access to all the above-referenced features and benefits, including an entire community of other like-minded leaders and career experts all ready to help.
Does ExecuNet work for career seekers?
Specifically, is it any good? According to the testimonials shared on ExecuNet, there are many happy customers of this job portal.
What makes ExecuNet unique is that they have a dedicated ExecuNet Career Success Coach for every member of the service to support career goals and help with various aspects of standing out in the job market. This one benefit alone may be worth the investment.
And keep in mind that the fees for joining ExecuNet and getting a professionally written resume may be written off on one’s tax return as a job-related expense.
There are currently no statistics on the success or hiring rate for sites like ExecuNet.com, TheLadders.com, or IvyExec.com. And, career-minded executives have no guarantee that membership to these sites will result in job interviews or solid job offers. There have also been a few who have indicated the positions are not exclusive to the ExecuNet jobs portal, although they can sometimes be hard to find on other job sites.
It’s important to note that one is not paying for jobs, but rather for the time saved not searching through multiple job leads.
