Jobvite Recruitment Survey – Surprising Results for Jobseekers
Posted by Teena Rose, resumes and cover letters to give you the advantage.
As career professionals, we write articles, we blog, and we consult clients on the changing job-search landscape.
Social networks are here to stay, and a recent recruitment survey performed by Jobvite adds more validation to what job-search experts have been telling us for some time.
“Hiring professionals are expected to ramp up use of social networking channels such as LinkedIn, FaceBook, and Twitter for the sole purpose of recruitment.”
If you believe Dan Schawbel from PersonalBrandingBlog.com, social networking tools are to be the demise of job banks. Mr. Schawbel has also forecasted a 5-year timeline. Keep in mind, there are an estimated 33,000 job banks according to Weddle’s latest tallies.
Will social networks, such as LinkedIn, FaceBook and Twitter cause job banks to close shop? I say, not just yet.
Reason #1 for “Not Just Yet”
Did we forget some are slow to adapt technology? Sure, we have the technical geeks paving the way for their companies, leveraging social media for anything and everything. But, let’s not forget the small to mid-sized companies that have yet to learn what social media can do … or maybe, they’re not convinced that social media will/can do anything to further benefit their business goals.
Reason #2 for “Not Just Yet”
The recent wave towards social networking has not been exclusively for business or even for job-search use. Sure, the current use of social networking is merely the “tip” of what we’ll see in the coming years, certainly, but employers and jobseekers still *love* job banks.
Reason #3 for “Not Just Yet”
Social networking has yet to provide hiring agents with long-term results, and until many companies establish an attractive social platform in order to recruit the best talent, job banks may well be around longer than anyone anticipates.
Do you watch TV? Of course you do. =-] A recent Verizon commercial stated only 26% of us know what Twitter is, and well, if 74% are still in the dark on one of the tools being pursued for talent recruitment purposes, we have a long way to go before the Big 3 social networks shut down the Big 3 job boards: Monster, CareerBuilder, and Yahoo HotJobs!. I believe these, and the thousands of niche and smaller job boards will dig-in to retain their market share and protect profits.
It certainly can be expected however that smaller, less established job boards just may be on the chopping block, making their days numbered.
